DISCUSSION

Based on Chapters 8, 9

Importing to layers

  • Original in layers
  • Multiple images imported to layers
  • Animating multiple layers
  • Importing as a movie clip (more efficient) - use from another existing library

Motion Editor

  • Use to fine-tune an animation
  • Can add effects to a tween, change easing, etc.

Motion presets

  • Choose existing motion preset
  • Save a new motion preset
  • Modify existing motion preset

Building layered animation

  • Determine concept
  • Determine animation(s) to happen
  • Determine order of animations
  • One "animation" may take 2+ layers (like a flying bird with flapping wings)
  • Using layer folders for organization

Movie clips, creating

  • Save an animation as a movie clip for later reuse
  • Click F8 to create a new symbol, choose Movie Clip, name the symbol
  • Double-click the symbol in the library to open its own timeline
  • Create the animation inside this sub timeline, using same layer and naming principles
  • When complete, click the Scene 1 icon to return to the main file stage/timeline
  • Create/name a new layer for the movie clip's use, and add a new keyframe (F6)
  • Drag the new movie clip onto the stage on this layer and keyframe
  • Test the movie clip (Control Enter)

Movie clip from existing animation

  • Unlock and make visible all frames in the animation
  • Select all frames in the animation
  • Right-click for context menu, choose Cut Frames
  • Create a new symbol (F8), choose movie clip, name the symbol
  • Double-click the symbol in the library to open its own timeline
  • Add a new keyframe (F6) on the available layer
  • On the keyframe, right-click for context menu, and choose Paste Frames. Your animation layers and frames should paste themselves in
  • When complete, click the Scene 1 icon to return to the main file stage/timeline
  • Back in the main timeline, you can delete the layers/frames for the animation you just made into a symbol
  • Create/name a new layer for the movie clip's use, and add a new keyframe (F6)
  • Drag the new movie clip onto the stage on this layer and keyframe
  • Test the movie clip (Control Enter). Wha-lah!

Scenes

  • Use instead of creating a crowded single scene (default Scene 1) timeline
  • Create blank scenes in advance
  • Click into each scene to get its own timeline
  • Scenes loop together automatically
  • Cannot watch just one scene - all play

DEMO

TASKS

  • Work through Chapters 8, 9. For kicks, try the Animate a Mask and Animate a Button segments since we won't have time in class.
