Tables - Insert tab
You can add and format attractive tables to your presentations.

  • Tables are used for tabular data, like lists and small tables of columnar data.
  • Tables can also act as a layout structure in your page
  • Tables can hold text, links, and images

 

Creating tables - Insert tab

  • Create a table with the number of rows and columns you wish
  • Determine if there should be a table heading row and banded rows
  • Fill in the cells
  • Adjust cell widths and heights

 

Modifying tables - Tables tab

  • Add a layout style to a plain table
  • Merging cells
  • Manually changing colors

 

Layout tables - Insert tab

  • Insert/Draw a table
  • Acts as a shape to modify
  • Insert items in table

 

DEMO

Create a basic PowerPoint document to look at table modification.

  • Create a new file and save it as demo06starter.pptx in your MIC104t/Demos folder.
  • Insert a table of 6 rows and 4 columns
  • Use Table Tools to remove Header row, then put it back
  • Change from banded rows to banded columns
  • Change the color theme
  • Manually change a row color
  • Change the borders
  • Use the eraser to "merge" cells
  • Change fonts of text
  • Choose a pen color and Draw another table

Editing inserted objects - Context tab

You can modify objects you insert into your presentations, such as images, shapes, and WordArt..

  • Images: You can edit the size and placement.
  • Clip art: You can edit like an image but also some of the colors.
  • Shapes and Smart-Art: You can modify or change styles, size, colors, filters, etc.
  • Text-related: You can change the size, width, color, etc.

 

Modification tools - Context tab

  • Item-specific toolbar, like Drawing Tools
  • Right-click context menus
  • Size and Position
  • Format Item (shape, table, image, etc.)
  • Not all options in a modification area work for all items you wish to modify.

 

Using filters and effects - Context tab

  • Use on shapes and lines
  • Format Shape
  • Shadows
  • 3-D effects

Create a basic PowerPoint page to look at editing shapes and images

  • Insert a piece of clipart
  • Use Picture tools to edit the image - border, effects, rotate, picture styles
  • Reset picture
  • Play with recolor, contrast, brightness
  • Change size and position
  • Insert a Shape
  • Use right-click context menu to change size and position
  • Use right-click context menu to format shape - play with Format Shape menus
